Plant breeder Jason Karl set the record for the tallest corn plant at 45 feet tall in Costa Rica in 2018. While that would be a spectacular sight, corn stalks eight feet tall on average make great seasonal décor for fall farm curb appeal.
Dry the stalks to make them last through the fall after cobs are harvested. Immature cobs can remain on the stalk for added interest.
- Cut the stalks a few inches above ground level
- Tie the stalks together in bunches
- Hang the stalks upside down for several days
- The stalks should be hung in a cool, well ventilated area
- Remove when leaves are dry but still pliable
Tip: At the end of the season remove corn stalks and use for compost or animal feed.
