Québec Maple Syrup Producers (QMSP) kicked off the 2023 sugaring-off season recently. This year’s theme “Québec’s Maple Syrup Industry: Prosperous and Sustainable.” Considering the sector’s significant contributions to both environmental and economic health in the Province of Québec and to Canada.
QMSP president Mr. Luc Goulet demonstrated his point with the impressive impact of the maple syrup industry: “Maple syrup production is good for the environment, but also for the Québec economy. Our business activity sequesters 744,000 metric tonnes of carbon on an annual basis. That represents the removal of 222,000 vehicles from our roads each year. Beyond that, it produces the equivalent of 12,583 full-time jobs, while contributing $1 Billion to Canada’s and Québec’s GDP and generating $235 Million in tax revenues. Maple syrup is liquid gold in the regions.”
