Rural landowners looking to power through their property maintenance may want to consider a line of equipment being introduced to Canada by a Danish company.
GreenTec representatives, Dennis Martin from St. Mary’s, Ontario, and René Franck from the company’s headquarters, talked about the system as it was demonstrated at Dan Konzelmann’s farm near Sarnia, Ontario.
“We’ve got about 10 years of experience with this particular system and we’re just introducing it here in Canada,” Franck said.
“We’re the ones that started out with this technology in Europe.”
Konzelmann learned about it at the Agritechnica show in Hanover, Germany and was impressed enough to purchase the first GreenTec Multi Carrier and Quadsaw combo to be exported to Canada.
The Quadsaw attaches to the Multi Carrier and is ideal for trimming trees along fencerows. Other attachments for the Multi Carrier are available including a rotary hedge clipper, general purpose cutter bar, a mower for cutting under fences and a rotary crusher.
All attachments can be quickly locked into the Multi Carrier which, in turn, is bolted onto a tractor’s front-end loader or a mini-loader. Hydraulic power is delivered through quick couplings.
Konzelmann’s Multi Carrier/Quadsaw combination is the largest available. It has a six-metre reach and is suited to a 160-horsepower or larger tractor although tractor weight rather than horsepower is the key limiting factor for stability reasons.
The four carbide-tipped blades are rated for roughly 100 hours. These can be sharpened or replaced as needed. The blade assembly rotates through a 100-degree working angle and folds for transport.
Another important feature is the nitrogen gas cylinder located on the Multi Carrier. If any of the attachments are met with excessive resistance, it provides a cushioning effect to prevent damage.
Konzelmann said he can trim the fence-lines along three sides of a 100-acre field in about half a day.
With Martin’s support, GreenTec is setting up a dealership network in Ontario and has plans to market its equipment throughout Canada and the United States.
For road travel, the Multi Carrier with its Quadsaw attachment folds up as Dan Konzelmann demonstrates.
