Manitoba has been hit hard in the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first wave of the pandemic, Manitoba had been very successful in curbing cases. This has caused a dramatic increase in load on hospitals within the province lowering the number of other patients that can be given treatment and increasing the risk for non-COVID patients to use hospital services.
For farmers, accessing medical care can be a challenge, with many farms and rural areas being far from urgent care facilities.
Farming can be a dangerous profession and the loss of fingers, limbs and lives happen on farms every year. Now more than ever, it is important to practice farm safety. For producers across the country and especially in provinces with rising cases it is important to reduce the strain on hospitals.
There are tons of resources available from the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association, which has developed a FarmSafe Plan to takes the guess work out of developing a safety program. CASA’s FarmSafe plans and resources includes checklists, step by step guides, as well as sample policies.
