Al Mussel, research lead with Agri-food Economic Systems and Charles Lalonde, an agronomist and industry consultant, have developed a web-based tool that aggregates multiple sources of information to help Ontario farmers find sustainable solutions for field-based problems.
Resilient Fields is the new free application designed to assist Ontario crop producers in finding long-term and sustainable solutions to field-based challenges. It was developed with the financial support from the Canadian Agricultural Partnership, as well as the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario (CFFO) and the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA).
Resilient Fields can assist farmers in weighing alternatives prior to the start of the growing season and during their entire crop rotation. Farmers can use the app with a crop adviser or on their own to uncover sustainable solutions backed by research and supported by articles and videos. Other tools, such as the 4Rs, cover crop options, maps, and more, are also available.
The Resilient Fields platform is not meant to replace advice from a Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) or an agronomist. In fact, many CCA’s and agronomists in the province were consulted and their input was used in the app’s development.
The app is having a virtual launch on August 16, 2021, from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m, to learn more, farmers can register for the launch event here:https://www.eventbrite.com/o/33808386611.
