Even people known for working outside and being hands-on have difficulty turning off devices. Whether it be a computer or phone, we are in the habit of adding screen time to our daily rituals. Here are reasons to invest less in screen time.
Putting down the phone, turning off the TV and getting off the couch requires movement. Movement can help prevent obesity and related conditions. You’ll have more time for exercise and fun. And all the daily physical activity means you will feel better and sleep better.
Face-to-face connections are vital. FaceTime is a poor substitute. We show our children and loved ones what is truly important when we put our phones down and spend time together.
Time on a screen makes it easy to withdraw, become isolated and depressed. Once you’re off the phone, you’re more inclined to be social.
Screen time has also resulted in less time outdoors in nature. In other words, screen time has replaced “green time.”
With the phone out of your hand it is much easier to build stronger connections with your family, friends, neighbours, coworkers and nature.
