I recently came across a recipe for hot dog relish that my mom has in her collection. The recipe was handed down from her grandmother of Hartland, NB. Although hot dogs weren’t big on the menu in her time, it was renamed to inspire the next generations.
Quantities in quarts (Imperial of course), cups and each(s), often seem excessively sweet and heavy.
Time of cooking also seems excessive on the recipe card, as well as the sugar and flour.
The number of jars required a mystery.
Stay tuned online as I report on our (me and my somewhat reluctant mother) efforts to update this recipe. We will work to compare and contrast quantities, cooking times and ingredients to re-imagine a small farm harvest hot dog relish recipe to savour.
