The International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) launched and conducted a survey in early 2021 as part of the International Year of Plant Health 2020, in response to the growing concerns about biosecurity around the world and the ornamental horticulture industry's responsibility to sustainability.
International travel and trade have tripled in volume in the last decade, raising the chances of pests and diseases spreading fast throughout the world, wreaking havoc on local species and the environment.
The goal of the survey was to learn how industry organizations strive to improve plant biosecurity in their regions and to exchange information on voluntary biosecurity measures used by businesses and supply chains.
The Plant health industry support programmes have the potential to enable healthy production systems, cost-effective and dependable movement of low-risk plant material throughout global supply chains, and traceability in the case of a biosecurity concern.
The survey results were presented by Dr Audrey Timm, AIPH's Technical Advisor, in conjunction with Mr Alistair Yeomans, Plant Health Alliance, at AIPH's International Plant Health Conference in March 2021. You can watch the presentation at aiph.org/event/planthealthconference/
