June 11 is a day to honour farmers and ranchers in Alberta (and the rest of Canada) because it is Farmer's Day. Farmers and ranchers who labour nonstop, even in the face of a pandemic, are recognized by the United Farmers of Alberta Co-operative (UFA). Every year on the second Friday in June, Farmer's Day is celebrated.
Farmers are among the people who have been hit the hardest by the current pandemic, and the consequences have been felt all around the world. The importance of farmers in our lives and the economy at large cannot be overstated. Every year, countries throughout the world commemorate ‘National Farmers' Day' to ensure that they receive the recognition, credit, and attention they deserve.
When Farmer's Day first began, it was a provincial holiday, giving children the day off from school and allowing families to spend valuable time together after the hard and busy seeding and calving seasons.
UFA is inviting Albertans to use the hashtag #FarmersDay and tag @ufacooperative to share their photographs and messages on social media to capture the power and promise of the province's agriculture industry.
Happy Farmer’s Day!
