For the last 15 years I have covered my carrots in their spot in the garden where they have grown. I dig them throughout the winter months. I have dug them in a snowmobile suit with a head lamp at -21degrees. The grandchildren love my carrots better than candy.
One trick is to plant as many in a small area as possible. Little fingerlings are what you want. Cover with ½ inch of dirt just before freeze up. When you know winter is tomorrow, cover with 3 inches of leaves, must be dry, and 1-2 inches of Styrofoam. I put a pipe with some mouse food just in case they find my stash. Cover and seal with plastic and make sure to bury the edges. A good insulating job has a good seal.
Last year we had a block 4 ft wide x 16 ft. long. I have taken carrots to work and left the green tops on to prove this is possible. Most people do not believe me. When they taste my carrots, they know I have not bought these from a grocery store.

No slip, no leak tire filler
Its a tire filler / blower tool I made with an M-type fitting and a schrader extension. I got tired of the cheap clip-on style schrader chuck popping off the valve or leaking as you fill. I found the old fashioned thread-on style to be the best.
