Vernier Caliper and Micrometer
So here are a pair of cool tools that machinist’s use all day every day.
The Vernier caliper is a multi measure device. It is used for outside diameter, inside diameter or depth which is measured in thousands of an inch or in millimeters. These ones measure up to six inches. It has a one-handed use feature with a thumb lock that is simple to use.
The micrometer is specialized and used for outside diameter measurement only. Very limited in diameter, the micrometer is purchased in the size that you typically work in, such as 0”-1”, or 2”-4. It gets expensive for a full collection of this tool, but it’s a good investment if you use it a lot.
