Vice grips or locking pliers are a type of plier that can be locked into position without exerting continuous pressure. Some relate to them as “another pair of hands”. This hands-free grip is maintained by the vice grips until manually released.
You have reason to use vice grips if you need more leverage than regular pliers can provide and/or need fine control at the point of closing.
Many farmers, homesteaders and property owners that work with pumps and storing and moving water wouldn’t be without them.
