We have been discussing biosecurity practices and the tools that can help for some time. The tools and strategies can vary from species to species as well as plant versus animal, but one thing is sure – the strategies you employ need to work.
In a recent interview with Small Farm Canada Dr. Jean-Pierre Vaillancourt of the Université de Montréal shared research on Improving Biosecurity in Poultry Flocks. He and colleagues Manon Racicot, Université de Montréal, and Mattias Delpont, École nationale vétérinaire de Toulouse, France bring together evidence from previous research as well as information from their own research studies to form conclusions.
One conclusion Dr. Vaillancourt shared was a report from Allen and Newell (2005) on the lower efficiency of footbaths compared to using boots dedicated to each barn.
What better boot for this purpose, than the Muck Boot. A boot that can be dedicated but also provides comfort, warmth and a no-slip Vibram sole.
This boot also offers flexibility, as it can withstand the rigours of a highly effective sanitizing soluion (when used as directed), sodium hypochlorite, commonly know as bleach.
