This Cool Tool Thursday is a precautionary tale.
Although hedge trimmers can be effective for trimming hedges, trees and undergrowth, they must be used with deliberate caution.
The story behind this picture is about a young woman working hard at a summer job as a landscaper. After completing a job and putting the cover on the trimmer, she noticed she missed a spot and turned the trimmer back on. Realizing she had the cover on, she quickly tried to take it off and got her poor fingers caught.
After being fast-tracked through emerg, it took tools of another kind and the members of the maintenance team at Markham General Hospital to remove the trimmer from this young woman’s hand.
More recently, another friend told me of her accident with a hedge trimmer this summer that also cut her hand and required stitches.
Please take care and take my advice: be present and be safe when using tools, your health, safety and hands depend on it!
