A new piece of equipment from New Holland Agriculture is a first for the industry.
The T4 Electric Power is the first all-electric utility tractor with autonomous features.
The autonomous features come from New Holland’s Smart Roof technology.
The Smart Roof is equipped with a 360-degree awareness system of cameras and sensors to detect and avoid obstacles.
Autonomous features include Follow Me Mode, in which the tractor follows a dismounted user. Shadow Mode allows operators to guide the machine with gesture control outside the cab. Fleet Management allows for tasks to be assigned to different pieces of equipment, and the Invisible Bucket allows for better viewing of loader bucket operations.
The tractor offers 74 engine horsepower, 65 PTO horsepower, and an average run time of about four hours, giving operators the performance they’re used to.
“This tractor runs, drives and operates just like a traditional tractor,” said Lena Bioni, a product marketing manager with New Holland Agriculture. “Clean power does not mean less power.”
Reducing the need for diesel, DEF, engine oil filters and other components can save operators up to 56 per cent in operational savings, Bioni added.
T4 Electric Power owners can charge the tractor using one of two chargers.
A standard AC charger can charge the tractor in about six hours.
A DC charger is capable of charging the battery from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in about one hour.
In addition, the tractor can act as a power source itself, useful for tools around the shop and farm.
