Kim and Stu Lang have pledged $7 million to strengthen the Community Healthcare Partnership Program (CHPP) and Remy’s Fund at Ontario Veterinary College (OVC). Their donation builds on a previous $11 million contribution, ensuring CHPP's continued success in providing animal healthcare for underserved communities across Canada.
The CHPP initiative trains veterinary students to lead programs addressing social inequities and improving access to animal health services. By embedding social justice principles into OVC’s Doctor of Veterinary Medicine curriculum, the program fosters a new generation of professionals committed to community medicine.
Remy’s Fund, named for the Langs' Yellow Lab, receives $2 million of the donation. This fund supports complex cases that mobile clinics cannot manage, ensuring timely and effective care for animals in need.
“The big difference for us is we’ve built the whole program to teach students how to do this work.” said CHPP’s Veterinary Director Dr. Lynn Henderson.“If you’re going to make meaningful change, you need to figure out how to grow a network of people that want to speak this language and do this work.”
The funding will expand CHPP’s mobile clinics, enhance operational capacity, and support collaboration with social services. By addressing healthcare disparities, the Langs aim to make basic veterinary care accessible to every Canadian family with an animal. Their transformative support is shaping the future of veterinary medicine.
