When Raman and Shikha Sobti immigrated to New Brunswick in 2017, they brought with them a deep respect for food, family, and community. What began as a personal endeavour quickly evolved into a thriving food manufacturing business, and today, Sai Krishna Foods is celebrating a significant milestone with the completion of its newly upgraded production facility in Cap Pelé, New Brunswick.
Raman Sobti, a culinary professional with 26 years of international experience at Marriott International, began making samosas for local farmers markets shortly after arriving in the province. The response was immediate and overwhelmingly positive. Encouraged by the strong demand and community support, Raman and Shikha officially incorporated Sai Krishna Foods in 2019, transforming a local market favourite into a growing food business.
Fast forward seven years, Sai Krishna Foods has taken a major step forward with the renovation and expansion of its Cap Pelé facility. The upgraded space offers increased production capacity, enhanced operational efficiency, and the room needed to support future innovation and growth. For the Sobti family, this milestone represents both a personal achievement and a strategic investment in the future of their business.
The expansion is also creating new opportunities within the local economy. Sai Krishna Foods currently employs eight people and expects to hire additional staff in the coming months as production scales up to meet rising demand.
Sai Krishna Foods samosas are made using only natural ingredients, without preservatives or artificial colours or flavours. Each samosa is carefully handmade, then fried and frozen immediately to preserve flavour, freshness, and shelf life. The superior texture of Sai Krishna Foods signature flour dough reflects more than two decades of culinary expertise and experience.
“Our goal is to expand into national retail chains, including Sobeys and Costco across Canada,” says Shikha Sobti, Co Founder, Sai Krishna Foods. “By summer 2026, we hope to see our products available in major retailers nationwide. This new facility gives us the capacity to grow, innovate, and meet rising customer demand.”
Support from both federal and provincial governments has played an important role in helping Sai Krishna Foods reach this stage. The federal government is providing a $541,000 repayable loan to support the expansion and the acquisition of new equipment designed to accelerate growth. In addition, the Province of New Brunswick, through Opportunities New Brunswick, will contribute up to $50,000 in non-repayable funding aimed at improving productivity.
For a family-owned and operated business, the expanded facility signals much more than increased square footage. It reflects years of dedication, the strength of local food systems, and the vital role small and medium-sized food manufacturers play in Canada’s agricultural and processing landscape.
From handmade samosas at local markets to a modern production facility with national aspirations, Sai Krishna Foods continues to build its future on quality, community, and a deep connection to its New Brunswick home.
“Supporting businesses as they expand and succeed is essential to building a vibrant and resilient economy in New Brunswick,” said The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade and One Canadian Economy. “Sai Krishna Foods’ new facility will help strengthen the region’s food manufacturing sector, create employment, and showcase the entrepreneurial spirit that defines communities like Cap‑Pelé. We are proud to see this company take an exciting step forward.”
“New Brunswick is home to entrepreneurs who are expanding what our economy can produce and where we can compete,” said The Honourable Luke Randall, Minister responsible for Opportunities NB and for Economic Development and Small Business.” Companies like Sai Krishna Foods are helping grow our food manufacturing sector, reaching new markets while creating strong local jobs and new opportunities in our communities. This is the work of Opportunities NB – helping businesses scale, strengthening our economy, and building the kind of growth our province needs right now.”
