In Guelph, dogs can now enjoy a beer-like treat made just for them — thanks to BrüMaster’s Premium Dog Beer, a beef bone broth drink served in vintage-style beer cans. This new creation isn’t alcoholic but is designed for dogs, made with human-grade ingredients that promote healthy joints, skin, and digestion.
The ‘brewmaster’ behind this unique product is Asa Proveau, who is also the co-founder of Brothers Brewing Company, a Guelph-based brand focused on creativity and community.
Brothers Brewing was launched in 2014 by Asa and his twin brother Colton, who first dreamed up the idea in high school during a business class project. Their goal was to turn beer into a social and creative experience, offering a space for artists and like-minded individuals.
After finishing high school, the brothers followed different academic paths—one in business and the other in brewery management—and later gained experience at several Ontario breweries. With no initial funds, they started Brothers as a contract brewery, renting space to make small batches of beer. In 2015, they opened their own brewery location in Guelph, bringing their vision to life.
Asa launched BrüMaster’s Premium Dog Beer to bring joy and health to dogs, especially on patios where owners enjoy craft beer. The idea was inspired by the popularity of bone broth in places like Australia and Canada’s East Coast.
With help from another local brewery, Royal City Brewing, for pasteurization, the broth is now shelf-stable and available at Pet Valu, local bars, restaurants, and online. It can be served in bowls, poured on kibble, or frozen as a treat.
Asa will showcase BrüMaster’s Premium Dog Beer at events throughout the summer and hopes not only to expand sales, but to encourage dog fostering and adoption.
