Farm safety education begins early, especially on family farms where the lines between home and workplace often overlap. To promote a stronger culture of safety for young people in agriculture, the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) has launched the Kids FarmSafe Colouring Contest, inviting children and youth to get creative while learning valuable lessons about staying safe on the farm.
Created in partnership with BASF Agricultural Solutions Canada Inc., the contest encourages children to engage with farm safety concepts in a fun, age-appropriate way. By colouring illustrations that highlight safe behaviours around farm equipment, animals, and work areas, participants gain early awareness of the unique risks found in agricultural environments. Five winners will be chosen.
Supporting FarmSafe Week 2026
The colouring contest is part of CASA’s third annual Kids FarmSafe Week, taking place May 11 to 17, 2026. This national awareness campaign runs under the theme “Nurturing the Future of Agriculture”, reminding farm families, workers, and rural communities of the shared responsibility to protect children and youth on farms.
Through FarmSafe Week, CASA encourages Canadians to #KeepKidsFarmSafe by recognizing potential hazards and taking proactive steps to reduce risk. Agriculture remains one of the most hazardous industries in Canada, and children living or working on farms face a higher risk of injury than their peers in many other sectors. Raising awareness early is a key part of preventing serious incidents.
Creativity With a Purpose
The Kids FarmSafe Colouring Contest is open to children and youth ages 3 to 13 and runs from May 1 to May 31, 2026. Participants are invited to download colouring pages directly from the CASA Kids FarmSafe and bring them to life using crayons, markers, pencil crayons, or any preferred colouring medium.
Families are welcome to submit one completed page or multiple entries, allowing children to fully explore the theme while practising fine motor skills, creativity, and safety awareness. Every entry helps reinforce the idea that safety is an everyday part of life on the farm.
How to Enter the Contest
Entering the Kids FarmSafe Colouring Contest is simple and accessible for farm families across Canada:
- Download and print one or more colouring pages from the CASA Kids FarmSafe website.
- Colour the page using crayons, markers, pencil crayons, or another preferred medium.
- Submit the finished artwork to CASA in one of the following ways:
- Email the entry to info@casa-acsa.ca with the subject line “Colouring Contest Entry”
- Send the artwork by direct message to CASA on Facebook or Instagram
Each submission must include the child’s first name and age, along with a parent or guardian’s phone number or email address, so that winners can be contacted.
Building a Safer Future for Farm Families
CASA understands that family farms are unique environments where children grow up alongside daily agricultural work. While this provides valuable learning opportunities, it also increases exposure to hazards such as machinery, livestock, chemicals, and moving vehicles. Educational initiatives like the Kids FarmSafe Colouring Contest help bridge the gap between awareness and action.
By engaging children in conversations about safety from a young age, CASA aims to nurture a future generation of farmers and agri-workers who value safe practices as an essential part of farm life. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate alongside their children, using the colouring activity as a starting point for broader discussions about risk, responsibility, and prevention.
As FarmSafe Week 2026 approaches (May 11-17), the Kids FarmSafe Colouring Contest offers a creative and meaningful way for families to take part in a nationwide effort to protect the next generation of Canadian agriculture.
