On March 21 and 22, the University of Guelph opened its doors to the general public for one of the most anticipated agricultural and educational events in Canada: College Royal returning for its will return for its 102nd year, and continuing a tradition that has brought the campus to life for more than a century.
Recognized as the largest university open house of its kind in North America, College Royal attracts thousands of visitors each year, offering the public a rare opportunity to experience the University of Guelph’s world‑renowned agricultural and food systems programs firsthand.
From families and farmers to students and alumni, visitors from across Ontario and beyond gather on campus to explore interactive exhibits, livestock shows, demonstrations, and educational displays that showcase the university’s deep connections to agriculture, food, and rural life.
One of the most remarkable features of College Royal is that it is 100 percent student run and organized. Planning begins months in advance as students take on leadership roles across all aspects of the event, from livestock coordination and exhibition design to hospitality, marketing, and logistics.
For students, staff, and alumni, College Royal is far more than a weekend open house. It is part of a 12‑day celebration filled with traditions that have become legendary on campus. Events include Kick‑Off Pub, Super Thursday, livestock shows, square dancing, the College Royal Ball, and many more gatherings that build community and celebrate shared agricultural roots.
Livestock shows remain a cornerstone of College Royal, drawing competitors and spectators who appreciate the skill, dedication, and care involved in raising animals. Small Farm Canada was pleased to once again support this important tradition as an event sponsor.
Congratulations to the winners of a Two‑Year gift subscription to Small Farm Canada magazine:
