British Columbia farmers will have several opportunities this October to safely dispose of unwanted pesticides and livestock or equine medications through Cleanfarms’ UPLM -- Unwanted Pesticides and Old Livestock/Equine Medications.
The UPLM /Equine Medications program operates across Canada on a rotating schedule and provides farmers with a no-cost option for handling commercial-class pesticides and obsolete animal health products.
The initiative is designed to support responsible disposal while helping protect agricultural land, livestock, wildlife, and local communities.
Cleanfarms has scheduled eight collection days in BC between October 6, 2026, and October 16, 2026. Four events will serve the Fraser Valley, with another four taking place on Vancouver Island. Port Alberni will host a UPLM event for the first time. All collection sites will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“The reach of this year’s events means even greater convenience to BC farmers,” said UPLM’s Program Coordinator Heather Bradley. “Greater program participation, combined with the promotional work of our agricultural retail and regional district partners creates more awareness among growers and municipalities across BC about the full range of Cleanfarms programs and pilot projects for ag plastics.”
The Canadian Animal Health Institute is also supporting the programme.
“CAHI members are proud to support British Columbia’s farmers and ranchers through our long-standing partnership with Cleanfarms," said Dr. Catherine Filejski, President and CEO of the Canadian Animal Health Institute.
"This free program offers a safe way to dispose of unwanted or expired livestock medications, helping protect animals, farms and communities across the province,” Dr. Filejski added.
Fraser Valley events are planned for Delta on October 6 and 9, Langley on October 7, and Abbotsford on October 8. Vancouver Island events will be held in Duncan on October 13, Port Alberni on October 14, Cumberland on October 15 and Victoria on October 16.
Farmers should review Cleanfarms’ accepted material guidelines before visiting a collection site.
