Canadian horticulturist Stuart van Staalduinen was named a finalist for the International Grower of the Year (IGOTY) 2025 award by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH). The prestigious awards were presented on January 28, 2025, at IPM Essen in Germany, with Colombian grower La Gaitana Farms securing the top honor.
Van Staalduinen began his career with Bayview Flowers in 2009 as a Key Account Manager. Over the past 15 years, his dedication to the company’s growth led him to his current role as Sales Director. Bayview Flowers, established in 1948, has grown into one of North America’s leading ornamental flower and potted plant growers. Originally founded by Clarence van Staalduinen Sr., the company has expanded significantly over the decades, maintaining a reputation for quality and innovation.
Reflecting on his nomination, van Staalduinen expressed gratitude for the recognition. “I’ve been in this industry my whole life, so it means a lot (to be nominated). I’m excited to learn from the people around me and move forward in the industry,” he said.
The IGOTY finalists were selected by an international jury chaired by AIPH President Leonardo Capitanio. AIPH Secretary General Tim Briercliffe, who participated in the selection process, praised the candidates for their enthusiasm and commitment to the industry.
AIPH, founded in 1948, has long supported the global horticultural community, advocating for the growth of plants that enhance lives, support societies, and sustain the environment. The IGOTY Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in the horticultural sector, recognizing professionals who demonstrate innovation, sustainability, and leadership.
