The Government of Canada is advancing sustainable farming through the Agricultural Clean Technology (ACT) Program, with a new investment of over $116 million to support 119 projects nationwide. This funding will help farmers adopt innovative technologies to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
“Our farmers care deeply about the land and they’re always looking for innovative ways to reduce their emissions and make their operations more sustainable. Our investment in the Agricultural Clean Technology Program will help them stay on the cutting edge, so they can continue to feed Canadians and the world,” said The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.
The family-run organic farm previously secured funding of $126,014 through the ACT Program’s Adoption Stream for a dual curtain energy retention system in its greenhouse. This system improves insulation by creating an air gap between two curtains, reducing energy loss and enhancing heating and cooling efficiency.
In the latest round of funding, three projects in Prince Edward Island have been approved:
Indian River Farms in Charlottetown will receive $1.7 million for precision agriculture technology to enhance farm operations.
Vanco Flowers in Mount Albion will receive $782,696 for a biomass heating system to improve energy efficiency.
Bonus Consulting in Clyde River will receive $15,166 under the Research and Innovation Stream to explore new methods for sanitizing food processing facilities.
These initiatives are part of a larger effort to enhance sustainability in the agriculture sector, with 14 projects in Prince Edward Island already receiving $6 million in total support.
The Government of Canada remains committed to helping farmers reduce emissions, adopt clean energy solutions, and improve efficiency.
By supporting research, development, and implementation of clean technologies, Canada is ensuring that its agriculture sector remains resilient, competitive, and environmentally responsible for the future.
