The Buy BC program is expanding, offering greater support to farmers and small businesses across British Columbia, which will lead to a broader range of local food and beverage options it says.
“British Columbians know the Buy BC logo represents local products that are produced and processed by people in their communities, from small family farms to innovative food producers,” said Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture and Food.
“Buy BC is supporting the people who make up our province’s diverse agriculture and food industry so, together, we can continue to shine a light on many unique and delicious products produced here at home, while strengthening local food systems and economies.”
The Buy BC Partnership Program is providing $2 million to support marketing projects that increase awareness, demand, and sales of BC-made products. This funding helps food and beverage companies, as well as industry groups, showcase their stories across the province.
A notable example of success through Buy BC is Rad Jamz and Preserves, a Kelowna-based company that focuses on jams, jellies, and preserves made from locally sourced BC produce. With Buy BC funding, the company improved its marketing efforts, attended trade shows, and even revamped its packaging to more user-friendly flexible options. As a result, Rad Jamz saw a significant boost in sales and positive customer feedback.
Similarly, Not Too Sweet Craft Sodas, based in Surrey, utilized Buy BC funding to enhance its packaging and marketing, making it easier for customers to identify the locally produced beverages. Their updated packaging and trade show participation helped secure new retail partnerships and expand the brand’s reach, leading to increased sales.
Since its relaunch in 2017, the Buy BC Partnership Program has invested $13.7 million in over 600 businesses and associations, aiding them in promoting products, boosting food sales, and enhancing food security within B.C.
The application window for the next round of funding is from January 6 to January 27, 2025.
