CLUCK! CHICKENS EXPOSED - premiering Thurs., Jan. 29 at 9 pm on CBC and CBC Gem - reveals the often-misunderstood world of chickens including their complex social order, communications, super sensory abilities and surprising brain power.
There are nearly four chickens for every one of us on the planet. But the world’s most recognizable bird is also the most mysterious. In CLUCK! CHICKENS EXPOSED, discover how chickens have remarkable intelligence, super sensory powers, and create enough drama and intrigue to rival the most compelling reality show. A flock of memorable characters reveals the physical and mental prowess of chickens, from amazing 300-degree vision to spot predators, to dramatic fights to rule the roost. Through interviews with several experts including neuroscientist Dr. Onur Güntürkün, BC based veterinarian Emily Carrington, and Halifax area livestock scientist Dr. Suresh Neethirajan, viewers will learn that there is more to these birds of feather than previously thought. Plus paleontologist Dr. Michael Benton answers the age-old question which came first - the chicken or the egg?
"It was refreshing to look at chickens beyond food, and instead as animals with a fascinating history and a host of unique adaptations," says Sarika Cullis-Suzuki, host of The Nature of Things. "A real highlight was meeting chicken enthusiasts of all ages, who find comfort, joy, and even healing, in these often maligned creatures."
"We love revealing the remarkable lives of under-appreciated and misunderstood creatures like the surprisingly charismatic chicken," says Jeff Morales, co-executive producer, director, and director of photography of CLUCK! CHICKENS EXPOSED. "In the end, we hope to expose these extraordinary secrets to change the way the world sees chicken - and perhaps impact how we treat all farm animals."
It also premiers on Jan. 29 for access on demand at CBC Gem and The Nature of Things YouTube channel.
