In its native environment in Mexico, poinsettias are bush like and kind of gangly. In the wild, they usually bloom in December, and why they have become known as a Christmas plant.
In their natural habitat, in Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, Algeria and Tunisia, the cyclamen is a perennial that grows in clumps or mounds on rocky slopes and as undergrowth in forests. It blooms from early winter to early spring. In the summer and goes into dormancy to survive the hot, dry temperatures.
