Many of our Small Farm Canada readers feature woodlands on their farm and homesteads, and many of you cut your own logs and wood, so we like to share tools that can be helpful in managing your woodlot. Woodland Mills is a Canadian owned and operated company.
Growing up in Ontario, brothers Josh and Neil shared a passion for solving mechanical challenges. As youngsters, that often meant finding ways to make their homemade go-karts run faster. What began as childhood curiosity evolved into careers in engineering, with both earning mechanical engineering degrees before establishing careers and raising families on rural properties.
It was as rural landowners that they encountered a common challenge facing many property owners and farmers: quality forestry equipment was difficult to find at a reasonable price. Premium products often came with a steep price tag, while more affordable options frequently lacked the durability, craftsmanship, and performance needed for demanding work.
Recognizing a gap in the market, Josh and Neil set out to find a better solution. In 2009, they combined their engineering expertise and practical rural experience to develop equipment that offered both reliability and value. What started as an effort to solve their own problem soon became the foundation for a business focused on delivering well-built forestry equipment to landowners across Canada and beyond.
That is the backstory, here is there latest innovation.
Woodland Mills has unveiled the HM126MAX Portable Sawmill, a new model designed to provide greater cutting performance while continuing the success of one of the company's most established products.
The HM126MAX introduces a redesigned FULLCUT sawhead that delivers a true 26-inch cutting width, matching the sawmill's maximum 26-inch log diameter capacity. This updated design allows operators to take full advantage of the machine's cutting envelope, making it easier to produce wider boards and live-edge slabs without upgrading to a larger sawmill.
By maximizing usable cutting space, the HM126MAX enables customers to recover more lumber from each log, whether they are producing dimensional lumber for construction projects or crafting custom wood slabs.
"The HM126 holds a special place in our company's history," said Neil Bramley, Co-Founder of Woodland Mills.
"It was one of the products that helped establish Woodland Mills and introduced countless customers to portable sawmilling. With the HM126MAX, we wanted to build on that foundation by giving customers more cutting capacity while preserving the simplicity and value that made the original so successful."
"As engineers, we're always looking for ways to improve our products," added Josh Malcolm, Co-Founder of Woodland Mills.
"The HM126MAX is a great example of that mindset. By introducing our FULLCUT™ sawhead design to the HM126 platform, we've created a sawmill that better utilizes its full capacity and gives customers more opportunity to turn valuable logs into valuable lumber."
The new HM126MAX reflects Woodland Mills' ongoing commitment to practical innovation, giving sawyers increased cutting capacity while maintaining the ease of use and value the HM126 series is known for.
